My thoughts on the KFC Picklecore meal
On the 4th of September at 4 am, I was laying in bed, staring at my phone, scrolling Twitter. I saw a Tweet from Dexerto announcing that KFC was launching a new Picklecore menu with a pickle burger, "frickles", pickle Pepsi Max, and "even" a pickle cheesecake. My delirious mind went, "what in tarnation" and basically "I'll believe it when I see it". And in the previous 15 days, within those 15 days I went past my local KFC, I did see it, but I never stopped in to try it. Until tonight, the 28th of September, the final night it is offered.
I got the Picklecore menu, which included the burger, loaded fries, popcorn chicken, and pickle sauce. Unfortunately, they were out of the pickle Pepsi and I didn't have enough time to try the cake (I don't think they would've had it anyway), but I tried the core of it.
So, to make it difficult, I'll break each piece of food into its own section. And preemptively, I know pickles are a love/hate food, people either are obsessed with them or despise them with a passion... I'm on the obsessed side, I like pickles. So if you don't like pickles, you probably won't like this post either.
And I also didn't take any photos, because there were a bunch of people talking with the staff at the front counter, I didn't want to look like a psychopath taking 500 photos of individual food items, so...
Burger
The pickle burger was... extremely self-explanatory. It was a normal chicken sammie, sans the cheese, and with pickle sauce and... you'll never guess... PICKLES. Up top, there was some seasoning (I think?) and fried pickles. Under the fillet, there were juicy pickles and fried pickles. I dipped the burger in the tub of pickle sauce, and honestly, it was both pretty underwhelming and really delicious. I was expecting the fillet to have some pickle juice infusion, be marinated in pickle juice, something crazy like that, but it was just a normal chicken fillet. On the other hand, it was just delicious. The pickles were nice and crunchy, and pickle-gimmicks aside, it was just a fine KFC burger.
Loaded fries
I don't know if these were the "Frickles" or a separate pickles item, but I was served fries in a box with pickle sauce, popcorn chicken, fried pickles, plus a separate tub of the same pickle sauce on the side. And again, both underwhelming and tasty. However, the more I ate, the more soggy the fries buried at the bottom became, so it kinda got less tasty and more underwhelming. Nonetheless, tasty item, not exactly what I expected, but still cool.
Popcorn chicken
I'm not sure if the popcorn chicken was part of the meal, but I was just served an ordinary box of popcorn chicken. Maybe the staff gave me the wrong item. Not much to say about that one.
So yeah, my review on the KFC Picklecore menu. I believe it was only launched in Australia, and most of my online friends are situated in Europe and North America, so, this is the crazy shit that KFC does down under.
In a nutshell, it was weird; the good weird, tasty, but also a tad underwhelming. Even more underwhelming considering I didn't get the Pickle Pepsi, which is honestly what I was after the most. But whatever, c'est la vie. I'm also a bit disappointed with myself for not trying it earlier. But again, boohoo.
